BHA and BHT: Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are used similarly to propyl gallate. It helps to keep fats and oils from spoiling. Commonly used in cereals, chewing gum, vegetable oils, potato chips and also found in some food packaging to preserve freshness. Legal in the U.S. of-course but banned in England, it's associated with liver and kidney damage, behavioral problems, infertility, weakened immune system, birth defects and cancer.
Potassium Bromate: Bromate has been banned throughout the world, except for in the United States and Japan. This additive is used in breads and rolls to increase the volume and produce a fine crumb structure. Most bromate breaks down into bromide, which is harmless. But the bromate that does remain causes cancer in animals. In California, a cancer warning would likely be required if it were used, which is why it's rarely used in that state. Pass me the rolls please!
Monosodium glutamate (MSG): MSG is used as a flavor enhancer in many packagedfoods, including soups, salad dressings, sausages, hot dogs, canned tuna, potato chips, and even hidden in some infant formulas, low fat milks, candy, chewing gum, drinks and over-the-counter medications. According to Dr. Russell Blaylock, an author and neurosurgeon he states there is a link between sudden cardiac death, particularly in athletes and excitotoxic damage caused by food additives like MSG. It may also cause headaches, itching, nausea, nervous system and reproductive disorders, high blood pressure. Pregnant, lactating mothers, baby's and small children commonly have allergic reactions with MSG. Now you know why you're so crappy after eating Chinese take out.
Aspartame: This artificial sweetener is found in over 6000 sweetened products including(but not limited to) diet sodas and other soft drinks, instant breakfasts, breath mints, cereals, sugar-free chewing gum, cocoa mixes, frozen desserts, gelatindesserts, juices, laxatives, chewable vitamins supplements, milk drinks, pharmaceutical drugs and supplements, shake mixes, tabletop sweeteners, teas, instant coffees, topping mixes, wine coolers and yogurt claiming to be sugar free or calorie free. This sweetener has been found tocause brain tumors in rats as far back as the 1970s and now a more recent study in 2005 found that even small doses it can cause lymphomas, central nervous system damage, menstrual difficulties, may effect brain and growth development in an unborn fetus, cancer and brain tumors. Some people who are sensitive to aspartame sometimes experience headaches, dizziness and hallucinations. The melting point of this fine product is about 475 degrees Fahrenheit or 246 Celsius. In certain markets, aspartame is manufactured using a genetically modified variation of E. Coli. WTF!!! Are you sure you want that diet coke?
Acesulfame-K: This is another artificial sweetener that is used in baked goods, chewing gum, gelatin desserts and soft drinks. Two rat studies have found that this substance may cause cancer. Acesulfame-K also breaks down into acetoacetamide, which has been found to affect the thyroid in rats, rabbits and dogs.
Olestra: Olestra is a fat substitute used in crackers and potato chips, marketed under thebrand name Olean. This synthetic fat is not absorbed by the body but instead goes right through it and it can cause diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal cramps, flatulence and other effects. Olestra also reduces the body's ability to absorb beneficial fat-soluble nutrients, including lycopene, and beta-carotene. Beta-Carotene helps prevent night blindness and other eye problems, skin disorders, enhance immunity, protects against toxins and cancer formations, colds, flu, and infections. It is an antioxidant and protector of the cells while slowing the aging process. lycopene has been considered a potential agent for prevention of some types of cancers, particularly prostate cancer.
Sodium nitrite (or sodium nitrate): This stuff is used as a preservative, coloring and flavoring in bacon, ham, hot dogs, luncheon meats, corned beef, smoked fish and other processed meats. Consuming Sodium nitrite can lead to the formation of cancer-causing chemicals called nitrosamines.
Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil: The process used to make hydrogenated vegetable oil (orpartially hydrogenated vegetable oil) creates trans fats which in turn promotes heart disease , diabetes, breast and colon cancer, atherosclerosis, elevated cholesterol, depressed immune system, and allergies. The Institute of Medicine has advised that consumers should eat as little trans fat as possible. Avoid anything with these ingredients on the label, including certain margarine's, vegetable shortening, crackers, cookies, baked goods, salad dressings, bread, french fry's and many more. It's used because it reduces cost and increases the shelf life and flavor stability of foods. It all comes down to money, who gives a crap about living healthy anyway.
Blue 1 and Blue 2: Blue 1, used to color candy, beverages and baked goods and can cause cancer. Blue 2 which is found in pet food, candy and beverages has caused brain tumors in mice. Isn't that swell.
Red 3: This food coloring is used in caned or jarred cherries, baked goods and candy and causes thyroid tumors in rats and very likely in humans as well.
Yellow 6: As the third most often used food coloring, yellow 6 is found in many products such as but not limited to baked goods, candy, gelatin and sausages. It has been found to cause adrenal gland and kidney tumors and contains carcinogens which can lead to cancer. Fantastic!
Carrageenan: This is astabilizer and thickening agent found in many different foods . In addition to suppressing immune function, carrageenan causes intestinal ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease in animals and some research indicates that carrageenan is associated with causing cancer in humans. (This is what researchers use when they want to create cancer cells for laboratory experiments)
Aluminum: Sodium aluminum phosphate, aluminum salts, aluminum calcium silicate,aluminum hydroxide, aluminum sulfate, aluminum fluoride, aluminum acetate, aluminum bicarbonate, aluminum caprylate, aluminum chloride, aluminum diacetate, aluminum hydroxide, aluminum oxide, aluminum sulfate, Poly-oxo aluminum stearate, and Sodium aluminum phosphate. If you ever see the word aluminum any where on the package, PUT IT BACK! It is added to thousands of different foods. For example, it's in the granola topping that comes with the yogurt you get from McDonald's. Aluminum has been exempted from testing for safety by the FDA under some convoluted logic and is classified as GRAS. (Generally Regarded As Safe.) It has never been tested by the FDA on its safety and there are no restrictions what-so-ever on the amount or use of aluminum. Aluminum is an additive in most baking powders, bleached flour, grated cheese, table salt, and beer, (especially when the beer is in aluminum cans). The biggest source of aluminum,however, comes from our municipal water supplies. It can cause Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, colic, rickets, gastrointestinal problems, interference with the metabolism of calcium, extreme nervousness, anemia, headaches, decreased liver and kidney function, memory loss, speech problems, softening of the bones, and aching muscles. The source of many artificial food colors that go into our food are coal tar and petrochemicals. The human body was not designed to eat petrochemicals and the risk the consumption of these ingredients pose to our health is obvious.
So why are we putting petrochemicals in our foods?
The food companies are doing so to make the foods they sell more attractive to the consumers. The health effects on consumers appear to be of little consideration. Several artificial colors have been banned and pulled off the market over the last several decades because it was ultimately found to causecancer. The safety of those still allowed on the market is questionable to say the least; and eventually many of them will be outlawed when the myriad health problems they cause are made public.
Things you can do to protect your family:
Make better decisions at the grocery store by reading ingredient labels.
Look for artificial food coloring ingredients like Yellow #2, Red #5 or Blue Lake #40, and then avoid them.
Cheap, low-grade products in the grocery store tend to use these artificial colors.
You will also find that the same snack chips, processed foods, boxed dinner meals, and junk food made by the biggest food companies also contain refined white flour, MSG and hydrogenated oils.
Watch out for artificial colors in fruit drinks and candy. There are loads of artificial colors in candy, which makes for a very bad combination -- especially for children.
Your orange flavoured drink has tricalcium phosphate, cellulose gum, and the color tartrazine which is already banned in some countries.
Another repeat offender in this category is "sport drinks," which are loaded with petrochemical artificial colors that have no purpose other than to make the beverage visually appealing to consumer.
The confectionery industry relies heavily on artificial colors to make its foods -- like cake and icing -- look appealing as well. Icing is usually made of hydrogenated soybean oil, which is a nerve toxin, combined with refined sugars, which are dietary poisons that cause diabetes. The petrochemical-based artificial colors are used to top it off.
Read the ingredients on blueberry bagels at your local grocery store next time, and you'll find that there are really no blueberries but plenty of artificial blue and green colors to create the impression of little blueberry bits.

Carmine (IPA: /ˈkɑrmaɪn, -mɪn, -miːn/), also called Crimson Lake, Cochineal, Natural Red 4, C.I. 75470 or E120, is a pigment of a bright red color obtained from the carminic acid produced by some scale insects, such as the cochineal and the Polish cochineal, and is used for a particularly deep red color.
Carmine is used as a food dye in many different products, such as juice, ice cream, yogurt, and candies, eyeshadow, lipstick, etc. Although principally a red dye, it is found in many foods that are shades of red, pink, and purple. As a food dye it has been known to cause severe allergic reactions and anaphylactic shock in some people.
Food products containing carmine-based food dye may prove to be a concern for people who are allergic to carmine, or people who choose not consume any or certain animals, such as vegetarians, vegans, and followers of religions with dietary law (e.g. kashrut in Judaism and halaal in Islam).
Sources of Benzene:
Benzene can be formed in beverages that contain both ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and sodium benzoate (a preservative). The reaction between the ascorbic acid and sodium benzoate in beverages can create benzene. Beverages most likely to have benzene formation and included:

flavored mineral waters
Associated Health Problems:
Eating or drinking foods containing high levels of benzene can cause vomiting, irritation of the stomach, dizziness, sleepiness, convulsions, rapid heart rate, and death.
Cancer: Long-term exposure to high levels of benzene in the air can cause leukemia, particularly acute myelogenous leukemia, often referred to as AML. This is a cancer of the bloodforming organs. The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has determined that benzene is a known carcinogen. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the EPA have determined that benzene is carcinogenic to humans.
The major effect of benzene from long-term exposure is on the blood. Benzene causes harmful effects on the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells leading to anemia. It can also cause excessive bleeding and can affect the immune system, increasing the chance for infection.
Some women who breathed high levels of benzene for many months had irregular menstrual periods and a decrease in the size of their ovaries, but we do not know for certain that benzene caused the effects. It is not known whether benzene will affect fertility in men.
How can benzene affect children?
Children can be affected by benzene exposure in the same ways as adults. It is not known if children are more susceptible to benzene poisoning than adults.
Benzene can pass from the mother’s blood to a fetus. Animal studies have shown low birth weights, delayed bone formation, and bone marrow damage when pregnant animals breathed benzene.
Testing for benzene exposure ...
There is a test for measuring benzene in the breath; this test must be done shortly after exposure. Benzene can also be measured in the blood; however, since benzene disappears rapidly from the blood, this test is only useful for recent exposures.
In the body, benzene is converted to products called metabolites. Certain metabolites can be measured in the urine. The metabolite S-phenylmercapturic acid in urine is a sensitive indicator of benzene exposure. However, this test must be done shortly after exposure and is not a reliable indicator of how much benzene you have been exposed to, since the metabolites may be present in urine from other sources.

What is going on here? Tons of poisonous chemicals being put into are food so the consistency is a little better? So it will last a little longer? When eating, we generally find food that we think tastes great. Others like to focus on how healthy a certain food is before eating it. In any case, food is essential to all of our being. It is speculated that the body can only last two weeks without eating before it starts to break down due to lack of nutrients. Of course this number changes, depending on body mass, weight, etc.
However, have you ever stopped to think, while shoving a nice red ripe apple into your mouth, that you may be eating something poisonous? Many don’t know it, but a lot of the common day foods that we eat are toxic! Here is a list of ten toxic foods us humans just can’t say no to.
10. Cassava (Yuca)
Though not too widely used in the United States, cassava is a woody shrub that is generally found in the Caribbean and South America. When using cassava, it can either be made to be sweet or bitter. The taste, as well as the smell, all depends on the amount of cyanogenic glucosides, which are in fact, extremely poisonous. Most who prepare it like it to be bitter, as it keeps away insects and even animals. If cassava is prepared incorrectly, it can be deadly. Interesting fact: Cassava roots are ground into a flour-like substance which is then used to make tapioca. Cassava leaves contain cyanide but if pounded into a paste with flour and left in the shade for 5 hours, the cyanide is broken down.
Pufferfish stand to be the second most poisonous vertebrate in the world. Though you won’t find pufferfish in the U.S., many in Korea as well as Japan find some parts of the fish to be delicacies. However, certain organs of the fish, such as the liver, as extremely toxic, and can be deadly. The poison in the fish, known as tetrodotoxin, can cause numbness, high blood pressure, and muscle paralysis, which is what leads to death as the diaphragm muscles become paralyzed, disabling breathing. Known as fugu when eaten as a meal, many in Asian countries refuse to not eat the fish.
Interesting fact: Pufferfish has been made illegal to be eaten by the Emperor of Japan.
There are about 5000 types of mushrooms known in the U.S. and about 100 of them are said to be toxic, while less than a dozen are deadly. In any case, mushrooms can cause gastrointestinal discomfort. Since mushrooms are fungi and the fact that there are so many species, it can be hard to know which are poisonous. As rule of thumb, it is usually said that any mushroom found in the wild are more than likely poisonous. One of the deadliest types of mushroom toxins is Alpha-amanitin, which causes extreme liver damage. Toadstools, as they are called, are the poisonous mushrooms.
Interesting fact: There are 38,000 known kinds of mushrooms; about 5% of these are toxic.
Though really seeds and not nuts, cashews grow inside of a shell-like structure that grows on a fruit. When buying “raw cashews” in the store, take note that these nuts have actually been steamed and are not entirely raw. This is because raw cashews contain urushiol, which is the same chemical that you’d find in poison ivy. It can cause the body to have a very similar reaction to one experienced from poison oak or ivy. If a high level of urushiol is ingested, it can be deadly. Cashew poisoning is rare, but those who handle them in order to manufacture them to get the shell off sometimes experience the side-effects.
Interesting fact: Cashews come from a fruit, which in South American countries, is eaten, and the seeds (cashews) are then thrown away.
You’ve probably eaten a chili or two in your life. No matter if it was an extremely hot one, or one that was pretty mild, every chili you have ever consumed has contained a chemical called capsaicin. In chilies, capsaicin is what makes them spicy and “hot.” Of course one chili won’t hurt, but if you eat enough of them, capsaicin can kill you. The chemical is so strong that it is used as a paint stripper, and it is even used in pepper spray used by police forces. In hotter chilies, such as habaneros, capsaicin can be felt on the skin if you cut the chili, as it will produce a burning sensation.
Interesting fact: Chilies are extremely high in Vitamin C. One green chili pod is said to contain about 6 times as much Vitamin C.
We’ve all heard something or another about potatoes. Whether it is the potato famine, some Irish story, or some other historical event centered on potatoes, one thing you may not have heard of is that potatoes are toxic. The stem and leaves of the plant are toxic, and even the potato itself is toxic. If you’ve ever looked at a potato, you may have realized that some turn a greenish color. This is due to levels of glycoalkaloid poison. In the past, there have been deaths due to potato poisoning. It is rare, but most happen due to someone drinking potato leaf tea, or eating green potatoes. Death doesn’t come suddenly. It usually results in weakness and then a coma. Don’t worry about having the occasional green potato chip, but do discard any potatoes that have green eyes, sprouts, or greenish skins, rather than prepare and serve them, especially to children.
Interesting fact: Potatoes make great food for astronaut! In fact in 1995 potato plants were taken into orbit on the Columbia and actually grown.
Almonds, most always said to be nuts, are actually seeds and are extremely popular in kitchens around the world. Much like cashews, almonds are extremely poisonous if not introduced to some sort of heat source. It is generally the bitter almonds that need to be treated to get rid of the poison. The seeds are full of cyanide, and in many countries are illegal to sell without having been processed in order to get rid of the poison within the seed.
Interesting fact: Almonds are said to be one of the earliest cultivated foods, being mentioned in the Bible’s Old Testament.
Cherries are definitely one of the most versatile fruits. You can eat them raw, cook them, bake them, and get them tart or sweet. Cherries can even be used in certain types of liquor. Despite their overall red goodness, cherries are toxic. If you’ve ever eaten a cherry and without thought chewed on the pip or left it in your mouth, you more than likely introduced hydrogen cyanide into your body. If a cherry pip is chewed, crushed, or somehow damaged, it automatically produces hydrogen cyanide. Symptoms of mild poisoning include headache, dizziness, confusion, anxiety, and vomiting. Larger doses can lead to difficulty breathing, increased blood pressure and heart rate, and kidney failure. Reactions can include coma, convulsions, and death from respiratory arrest.
Interesting fact: Cherries contain extremely high amounts of Melatonin which is good for helping and keeping the body regulated.
Apples are definitely a popular fruit no matter where you go. Like others on the list, and many other types of fruits, apples contain cyanide, but not in high levels. The fruit itself does not contain the chemical, but you will find cyanide in the apple’s seeds. Eating all of the seeds in one apple won’t kill you, but it’s definitely not recommended. Of course, if enough apple seeds are eaten, this means chewed and swallowed, it can result in complications.
Interesting fact: Apples float because at least 25% of their mass is nothing but air.
Despite the extreme popularity of tomatoes and many countries, it is true that they are poisonous. Though the fruit itself doesn’t contain poison, the stem as well as the leaves contain a chemical known as glycoalkaloid. Higher levels are said to be found in wild tomatoes, but those grown domestically still contain glycoalkaloid. This chemical is known to cause upset stomachs and nervousness. The leaves and stem can be used in cooking for flavor, but must be removed before eating. This chemical is so powerful that it is actually used as a way to control pests.
Interesting fact: In 1893, in the U.S. Supreme Court case Nix v. Hedden, it was argued whether or not a tomato was a vegetable or a fruit, which dealt with taxes being paid on vegetbles and not fruits. Not all foods are immediately toxic in the body, but too much of them can be, but some foods are just plain toxic and should be avoided.
To keep it simple, there are two kinds of foods, those which leave an alkaline residue in the digestive tract, such as fresh fruits and vegetables, and those that leave an acidic residue, such as most nuts, grains and high proteins foods.
Of the acid forming foods there are 2 kinds:
Those which are acid forming because they have an abundance of acidic minerals (nuts and grains)
Those which are acid forming because they are difficult to digest and just plain toxic (meat, dairy, soft drink).
It should also be noted at this point that there is a difference between acid forming foods and acidic foods. Oranges for example are acidic, but once ingested into the body are alkaline forming. This is due to the fact that the acids in the orange are easily broken down by the body, leaving a large amount of alkalizing minerals (calcium, potassium…) in their wake.
Below is a list of commonly accepted foods which are toxic or highly acid forming in the body:

Calves fed pasteurised cows milk die within one week, the enzyme required to digest it (lactase) has been killed by the heating, along with a bunch of other enzymes.
Human bodies are designed to be vegetarians due to our long digestive systems and our relatively weak stomach acid (weaker than a cat for instance). Even if we were meat eaters, like tigers, the meat should be eaten raw not cooked, as cooking kills all the enzymes required to digest the complex proteins.
Heart disease, high cholesterol, strokes and cancer(the biggest killers in the western world) are almost unheard of in countries too “poor” to afford meat, such as China. It is also interesting to note that the above diseases are on the increase in China as it becomes more “wealthy”.
Soft drink has enormous amounts of refined sugar in it which leaches minerals from your body in an attempt to become “whole” again. Besides everyone knows sugar is bad, but possibly it is underestimated. Also the high levels of carbon dioxide toxify the blood.
Salt (sodium) cannot be absorbed by the body unless it comes directly from a plant. Tomatoes, celery, beetroot and many other foods are high in sodium. In fact most foods naturally contain sodium. The sodium molecules in table salt (and sea salt, as this is where table salt comes from) are too large to be used by the cells of the body, so they float around the body hardening arteries and creating havoc. Even your doctor will tell you to stop all salt if you have high blood pressure or cholesterol (along with meat products, eggs ...).
"Sodium chloride or table salt has the opposite effect of organic sodium. Table salt actually takes organic sodium out of the body, and causes more damage to normal intestinal mucosa than any other substance! Stay away from sodium chloride as if your life depended on it. Good sources of organic sodium are celery, okra, black mission figs, carrot juice, beets, whey (goat milk whey is far superior to cow’s milk whey and is less mucous-forming). In grains, almost all the nutrition and fibre is contained in the germ, which is removed to make white flour. The white flour coats the delicate intestinal walls and ferments. Without fibre, or the germ, grains are dangerous. Mother Nature wasn't silly when she created grains; they are not supposed to be separated from their germ by a machine.
